The Government Technical Institute (Mawlamyine) was founded on 20 December, 1982. Under the Ministry of Science and Technology, it was originally established by Agricultural Technology and Vocational Education. In 1999, it was transformed into Technical College and since then, it has been in existence as Technological University until now. From 2015, Government Technical Institute (Mawlamyine) has been reopened in the Industrial Zone located in the east part of Mawlamyine- Pha-an Highway, Nyaung Pin Sake Quarter, Mawamyine, Mon State. It covers an area of 14.66 acres.
